ADVENTIST CHURCH IN PORT HARCOURT CELEBRATE CENTENARY, AWARD MEMBERS

By Ekpor Temple

As part of the centenary plans for the celebration of 100 years of the Adventist church's existence in the South-East and South-South geopolitical regions of Nigeria, churches in Port Harcourt Conference on Saturday, October 14, 2023, staged a glamourous pomp and ceremony at various church locations in the metropolitan city.

The Port Harcourt Conference Administration held their service at Seventh-day Adventist Church Rumoukwuta, which drew a mammoth crowd of Adventists from Ikweree, Etche, Degema and the Port Harcourt axis of Rivers State. The Thanksgiving service and award ceremony had the church beautifully decorated, while the congregation was decked in resplendent ENUC uniform with delight and testimonies of being a part of such a historical celebration.

The Executive Secretary of the Eastern Nigeria Union Conference, Pastor Onyebuchi Opara who ministered in the divine service spoke on “when God wipes our tears”, and encouraged members to build heaven in their hearts as the coming of our Lord Jesus is at hand.

Similarly, Pastor Professor, B.E.O Udoh who spoke to the congregation via a WhatsApp call from Washinton DC in the United States of America, commended the leadership of the church in Port Harcourt Conference for recognizing the effort of their pioneers with a platinum award for their remarkable impacts in the expansion of the church, urged members to unite and contribute positively to the church and society.

Meanwhile, the Executive President of the church in Port Harcourt Conference, Pastor Anyalebechi Nnunukwe (Ph.D) in an interview with A-Media PHC said that it has not been an easy journey but the grace of God has been sufficient to see the Church through.

“Seeing the church clocked 100 years is such a humble privilege especially for those in the Rivers territory. We are celebrating the profound mission imprints and expansion of the church and its impact in our society.

“Since the inception of my administration, God has been faithful and gracious to us. The experiences, challenges, successes and achievements are so enormous. These could only be possible by the grace of God.

He also appreciated the executive committee members, Pastors, leadership of the districts and local churches, and entire membership for the support and cooperation they have shown towards his administration, “these supports have remained increasingly unfathomable and we are immensely grateful”.

The centenary celebration also witnessed the unveiling of the compendium of history of churches in Port Harcourt Conference, the decoration and celebration of three centenarian members of the church; and the presentation of awards to the pioneers and members whose deeds have led to the growth and expansion of the Adventist church in the territory.

Some award recipients expressed delight and gratitude to the church for the recognition.
