It was reported that over 50,000 friends across the numerous downlink centers were
welcomed by the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Eastern Nigeria Union
conference as the Almost Home Hope Channel evangelism began on October 20,
2023.
One shouldn't be alarmed by the stated number given the
strong pre-evangelism efforts being made throughout the territory. Churches
have been spreading the gospel in cities and communities, holding rallies,
laying out various plans and strategies, and, of course, the heightened media
and publicity presence.
The series, sponsored by Hope Channel, in collaboration
with the West-Central Africa Division (WAD) and the Eastern Nigeria Union
Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, saw the unprecedented
establishment of the Uplink center at Adventist Church Nkpolu-Oroworukwu, Mile 3,
Port Harcourt Rivers State, Nigeria and downlink centers in 22 countries
throughout the region.
There was a broad distribution of the programme on
satellites, via Hope Channel
International and Hope Channel Africa, the Hope Channel app, streaming
outlets on YouTube, and a number of social media platforms. Though huge
interference in the translation into seven languages – French, Pidgin, Igbo,
Hausa, Yoruba, Ibibio, and Ijaw language; the technical crew are working hard to
remedy the challenge.
Themed “Almost Home”, the series speaker, Pastor Christ
Holland (Senior Evangelist, Hope Channel International), encouraged
thousands of viewers and listeners across homes, churches and community downlink
centers all over West Central Africa that we are living in a difficult and
challenging time, a world dominated by fear, gloomy without hope, hence the
need to cling to Jesus as we navigate through fear, doubt, stress, grief,
uncertainty, and more.
In his sermon christened “an ancient King’s Dream
and the End of the World’’ Pastor Holland journey down to the historic
Babylonia empire when King Nebuchadnezzar ruled, His dreaded dream, its
miraculous interpretations and momentous implication in our modern world. “
Pastor
Holland expressed in the book of Daniel that Dreams can be funny, intriguing,
or scary. King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon had an unforgettable dream – what we’d
call a nightmare. But he didn’t call his friends; he summoned his magicians,
astrologers, sorcerers, and Chaldeans to tell him what the dream was. All to no
avail.
“One
might think the subject of the book of Daniel is Daniel, but it’s not. It isn’t
even about Nebuchadnezzar or the other kings of Babylon. The book of Daniel is
about God and His sovereignty.
God
uses a pagan king to reveal aspects of His character (eternality, omniscience, omnipotence,
sovereignty, gifts of wisdom, knowledge and understanding, faithfulness to His
people, and answerer of prayers) and Christ’s coming kingdom (He is the stone
uncut by human hands whose kingdom will never be destroyed and will stand
forever).
“Nigeria
is not our home, the USA isn’t my Home, but God’s kingdom that lasts forever.
Friends we are almost home. The
preacher avers.
