The needs for members to devise ways to proclaim
the gospel to the public formed the main thrust of the lecture delivered by Dr.
Margret Solo-Anaeto, a Senior Lecturer in the department of Mass Communication
and Media Studies, Babcock University.
Speaking on the topic, "Church community building in the digital age", the media
guru explained that we live in a digital age where people are always online for
various purposes, including religious activities.
Dr. Margaret Solo-Anaeto who doubles as the Editor of
Babcock University Press highlighted that 58.6 percent of the world's
population are in digital spaces where users spend and average of 2.5 hours on
social media everyday. She added that a person uses an average of two social
media platforms.
According to her, “Community building is the creation or enhancement of spaces where
people with similar interests converge and engage with each other.
She therefore encouraged the church to be
intentional in the community building effort because it makes it possible to
catch people where they are, fosters connection with people, extends worship
and church experience beyond physical forms and also builds trust in the
church.
