The Port Harcourt
East Conference (PHEC) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church held its year-end
Executive Committee (Exco) meeting at the Conference Headquarters boardroom in
Rumuokwuta on, 8 December, 2024.
This year’s meeting
was a strategic departure from previous formats. For the first time in the history
of defunct Rivers Conference, the PHEC administration invited all district
leaders, their associates, treasurers, and Personal Ministries Coordinators to
present their annual mission activity reports in a venue other than the Camp
meeting ground. This innovative approach is a direct copy of the structure of
year-end meetings conducted at the General Conference, the West-Central Africa
Division (WAD), and the Eastern Nigeria Union Conference (ENUC).
The meeting began
with an inspiring devotion from the Vice President of ENUC, Pastor Anyalebechi
Nnunukwe (Ph.D), drawing from Luke 10:13, he exhorted clergy and laity to labour
in unity and humility.
“We are all laborers in God’s vineyard. Look
to the Master who has called you. No one can take away your reward from God. Fear
not; do what pleases Him, and He will bless you and your family abundantly, he
reminded the Audience.
The devotion
concluded with a solemn prayer session which set the tone for the day’s
proceedings.
After the housekeeping, presided by the
Conference President, Pastor Samuel Iruolor, a documentary of the President’s
One Year Stewardship and mission activities was displayed to the house. It was
a sensational visual review of key
milestones and mission progress made in 2024.
The centerpiece
of the meeting was the presentation of annual mission activity reports by the
21 districts and groups within the Conference. Each district leader,
accompanied by their associates, treasurers, and Personal Ministries
Coordinators, provided detailed accounts of their work, achievements, and
challenges in their respective fields.
The Executive members
in response, engaged in thorough assessments and deliberations on the reports,
applauded the dedication of the district leaders and also voted on key agenda
items for the coming year.
Similarly, the
Exco members and invitees expressed their appreciation for the new meeting
format, praising the administration’s vision for inclusivity and collaboration.
Many noted that
the involvement of district leaders and their teams during year-end meetings
like will engender unity of purpose and a strong push for the WAD IMPACT 25
project.
One Exco member
remarked, “This year’s format has brought
a new level of engagement and unity. It feels like we are truly working
together as one team for the WADIMPACT25 mission of the Church.
